The Voice van Vlaanderen is a Belgian reality talent show, for the Flemish part of Belgium, created by John de Mol, based on the concept The Voice of Holland and its international series. It began airing on 25 November 2011 on VTM.

The show consists of five stages: producers' auditions, blind auditions, battle rounds, sing-offs, and live shows. To date, there have been fourteen winners: Glenn Claes, Paulien Mathues, Tom De Man, Lola Obasuyi, Luka Cruysberghs, Ibe Wuyts, Grace Khuabi, Louise Goedefroy, and the latest, Christophe Verholle.

The show has been presented by An Lemmens and Sean Dhondt. In 2016 Dhondt was replaced by Sam De Bruyn, De Bruyn left after one season with Dhondt returned for the 2017 series. Dhondt was replaced by Aaron Blommaert in 2022. Gloria Monserez was also featured as a presenter in 2022, but she was only present during the knockouts and battles, both were later replaced by Aster Nzeyimana in 2024.

The coaches for the upcoming tenth season feautre: Koen Wauters, Mathieu Terryn, Laura Tesoro, Joost Klein and Maarten & Dorothee for the Comeback Stage. Other coaches from previous seasons include Natalia Druyts, Alex Callier, Jasper Steverlinck, Regi Penxten, Axelle Red, Bent Van Looy, Bart Peeters, Tourist LeMC, Niels Destadsbader and Jan Paternoster. In the seventh season and onwards, Tesoro features as an off-screen fifth coach for the so-called Comeback Stage contestants. Tesoro became a main coach in the tenth season, and Maarten & Dorothee became the new coaches of the Comeback Stage.

The success of The Voice van Vlaanderen has led to the establishments of spin-off shows based on its concept, The Voice Kids and The Voice Senior.

Format

The series consists of three phases: a blind audition, a battle phase, and live performance shows. Four judges/coaches, all noteworthy recording artists, choose teams of contestants through a blind audition process. Each judge has the length of the auditioner's performance (about one minute) to decide if he or she wants that singer on his or her team; if two or more judges want the same singer (as happens frequently), the singer has the final choice of coach.

Each team of singers is mentored and developed by its respective coach. In the second stage, called the battle phase, coaches have two of their team members battle against each other directly by singing the same song together, with the coach choosing which team member to advance from each of four individual "battles" into the first live round. Within that first live round, the surviving four acts from each team again compete head-to-head, with public votes determining one of two acts from each team that will advance to the final eight, while the coach chooses which of the remaining three acts comprises the other performer remaining on the team.

In the final phase, the remaining contestants (Final 24) compete against each other in live broadcasts. The television audience and the coaches have equal say 50/50 in deciding who moves on to the final 4 phase. With one team member remaining for each coach, the (final 4) contestants compete against each other in the finale with the outcome decided solely by public vote.

Production

In early 2011, it was announced that VTM had acquired the rights to produce the Flemish version of The Voice. Devised by John de Mol, the format is based on the Dutch TV programme The Voice of Holland and is part of the wider The Voice franchise. The first season aired on 25 November 2011 on VTM. Following strong viewership and positive reception, a second season was confirmed in 2012 and began airing in 2013. After another successful run, the network ordered a third season, which aired in 2014. In 2016, VTM announced and aired the fourth season, followed by a fifth season in 2017. After the finale of the fifth season, a sixth season was confirmed, which aired in 2019. Later that same year, VTM also announced that The Voice Senior would debut as a spin-off for older contestants. The seventh season of The Voice van Vlaanderen premiered in 2021, followed by the eighth season in 2022. During the finale of season eight, a ninth season was confirmed, which premiered in 2023. By 2024, The Voice van Vlaanderen had aired nine seasons, cementing itself as one of Flanders’ most successful and enduring music competition shows.

On 25 November 2011, VTM premiered the first season of The Voice van Vlaanderen with Koen Wauters, Natalia Druyts, Jasper Steverlinck, and Alex Callier as the original four coaches. All four returned for the second season in 2013. For the third season in 2014, Regi Penxten, Axelle Red and Bent Van Looy joined, replacing Steverlinck, Callier and Druyts, while Wauters remained for his third season. In 2016, the fourth season featured Bart Peeters as a new coach, while Druyts returned to the panel after a one-season absence. Looy and Wauters continued for their second and fourth seasons, respectively. For the fifth season in 2017, Callier returned to the panel after a two-season break, joining Bart Peeters, Natalia Druyts and Koen Wauters. All four coaches returned for the sixth season. In 2019, the seventh season introduced three new coaches Niels Destadsbader, Tourist LeMC and Laura Tesoro. Peeters and Callier departed the panel with Wauters and Druyts remaining for their seventh and sixth seasons respectively. Tesoro joined as the fifth coach for the Comeback Stage of the competition. For the eighth season in 2022, Tesoro, Druyts and Wauters returned, while Mathieu Terryn and Jan Paternoster joined the panel, replacing Niels Destadsbader, Tourist LeMC. All four coaches returned for the ninth season. On 31 March 2025, it was announced that after 6 seasons Druyts would not be returning to the show. On 12 November 2025, it was announced that Joost Klein would debut as a coach for the tenth season alongside Wauters, Terryn, and Tesoro, with latter joining as a main coach after being the Comeback Stage coach for the previous three seasons. It was also announced that Maarten & Dorothee will be the new Comeback Stage coach for the season.
