Rancho San Diego is a census-designated place (CDP) in the East County region of San Diego County, California. The population was 21,858 at the 2020 census, up from 21,208 at the 2010 census. The area was developed as subdivisions beginning in the 1970s.

2020

The 2020 United States census reported that Rancho San Diego had a population of 21,858. The population density was 2,513.6 PD/sqmi. The racial makeup of Rancho San Diego was 74.9% White, 3.4% African American, 0.7% Native American, 4.2% Asian, 0.3% Pacific Islander, 5.2% from other races, and 11.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 16.4% of the population.

The census reported that 99.5% of the population lived in households, 0.4% lived in non-institutionalized group quarters, and 0.1% were institutionalized.

There were 7,854 households, out of which 31.5% included children under the age of 18, 58.4% were married-couple households, 3.9% were cohabiting couple households, 24.2% had a female householder with no partner present, and 13.5% had a male householder with no partner present. 20.6% of households were one person, and 11.5% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.77.

The age distribution was 20.7% under the age of 18, 8.4% aged 18 to 24, 23.3% aged 25 to 44, 27.2% aged 45 to 64, and 20.5% who were 65years of age or older. The median age was 42.7years. For every 100 females, there were 95.4 males.
