Connecticut

In the State of Connecticut, the U.S. Census Bureau began to formally recognize the state's 9 councils of government as county-equivalents on June 6, 2022, instead of Connecticut's eight historical counties. The eight historical counties continue to exist in name only, and are no longer considered for statistical purposes. Nonetheless, Connecticut has the third least number of subdivisions out of any state.
