As of 2019–2020 1,231 students attend the school. The grade breakdown follows:

The student population is about 49% white, 24% Hispanic, 14% two or more races, 6.4% Asian, 6.0% black, and less than 1% each Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander and American Indian/Native Alaskan.

  • Has produced various MLB talent over the years. Like for example, George Brett, an MLB Hall of Famer and World Series Champion with the Kansas City Royals in 1985, Scott McGregor, Starting Pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles from 1976 to 1988, and Lars Nootbaar, an Outfield for the St-Louis Cardinals.
  • As of 2025, the El Segundo Varsity Baseball team is coached by former MLB pitcher Billy Traber

  • Boys Basketball has won a CIF Southern Section title in 1963
