The name Actinocorallia derives from: Greek noun 'grc (ἀκτίς, ἀκτῖνος), a beam; Latin noun corallium, coral; Neo-Latin feminine gender noun Actinocorallia, meaning an actinomycete microorganism that forms sporophores resembling coral.
