Tamar Chergoleishvili

Tamar Chergoleishvili (Georgian: თამარ ჩერგოლეიშვილი, born May 25, 1975, in Tbilisi) is a Georgian politician and journalist, known for her liberal political views and advocacy of Euro-Atlantic integration, democratic governance, and resistance to oligarchic influence in Georgia. She is co-founder of the Federalists Party and the founder of online magazine Tabula.

Born on May 25, 1975, Chergoleishvili graduated in 1997 from the Faculty of International Law and Relations at Tbilisi State University, majoring in international relations and earned a Master's in International Human Rights Law from the University of Strasbourg. From 1997 to 1998, she worked for the American Bar Association and began working for the Council of Europe in 2000. She served as the head of the legal group at the Council of Europe from 2006 to 2010. In 2009, she founded the magazine Tabula, and at the end of 2012 launched Tabula Television.

In 2023, she started her political career by becoming a member of European Georgia, which she left in 2024 along with her colleagues due to an internal dispute. Chergoleishvili became one of the founders of the Federalists Party (ფედერალისტები), a conservative political party in Georgia established in the 2024. The party was formed in response to what its founders described as democratic backsliding, increasing political polarization, and the concentration of informal power in the country. Chergoleishvili has played a leading role in shaping the party’s ideological orientation, which emphasizes Euro-Atlantic integration, decentralization and federalism, the rule of law, and resistance to oligarchic influence in politics. The Federalists Party positions itself as explicitly pro-Western and liberal, and has sought to distinguish its platform from both the ruling party and other opposition groups.

Chergoleishvili is married to Georgian politician Giga Bokeria.
