Led by sixth-year head coach Rocky Long, the Lobos compiled an overall record of 8–5 with a mark of 5–2 in conference play, placing second in the MW. New Mexico was invited to the Las Vegas Bowl, where the Lobos lost to Oregon State. The team played home games at University Stadium in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
