Greeley won Missouri by a margin of 11.81%, but died prior to the Electoral College meeting, allowing Missouri's fifteen electors to vote for the candidate of their choice. 8 electors voted for Greeley's running mate Benjamin Gratz Brown, 6 chose to vote for Thomas A. Hendricks, and 1 chose to vote for David Davis.
